Our milestones
Established in 1985 by Swiss-born and proudly South African Hans Enderle, City Lodge Hotels is a JSE-listed South African-based hotel group with 58 hotel properties across Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa. As one of the top 250 hotel groups in the world, the group houses four hotel brands: Courtyard Hotel, City Lodge Hotel, Town Lodge and Road Lodge. As a leading competitor in the southern African hospitality sector, the group aims to provide quality accommodation, a homely atmosphere, friendly service, and a stayover to all walks of life. The group offers a range of accommodations to suit different budgets and needs, including Road Lodge for budget-friendly stays, Town Lodge and City Lodge Hotel for upper mid-scale options, and Courtyard Hotel for upscale accommodations.
1985
Hans Enderle opens the first City Lodge Hotel in Randburg, Johannesburg (now Bryanston)
1990
Town Lodge brand is added to the portfolio
1992
City Lodge Hotels Limited lists on the JSE
1995
The City Lodge Hotels 10th Anniversary Employees Share Trust is established, thus enabling employees to become shareholders. Road Lodge and Courtyard Hotel brands are added to the profile
2012
The group acquired 50% of Fairview Hotel Limited in Nairobi, Kenya
2013
Town Lodge Gaborone opens in Botswana as the first hotel in the group to be established outside of South Africa
2017
City Lodge Hotel Dar es Salaam opened in Tanzania
2020
City Lodge Hotel Maputo opens in Mozambique in February. World Health Organization declares Covid-19 a pandemic, and extensive lockdown measures are implemented globally
2021
Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City opens in Midrand, Johannesburg, as our flagship hotel in the Courtyard Hotel brand
2022
Rollout of Eat-in lunch and dinner offerings at Town Lodge and Road Lodge. Sale of four hotels in Kenya and Tanzania together with the Fairview Hotel brand.
2023
Renewed reinvestment in the hotel portfolio after three years of only mandatory capital expenditure. Launch new visual identity and brand positioning for the group and our brands.
